India Tomorrow - By Dr. Ranjit Ghose
The main thrust of the book is on ethics and society in the Indian context. Our understanding of ethics is, the principles used to decide what behaviours are right, good and just. However, such principles do not always dictate a single ‘Moral’ course of action. More simply – ‘Ethics is the rules for deciding correct conduct.’ The book has a collection of several articles, presented in three sections. Section I depicts India's problems. Three articles, identified for this section are, ‘National Integration - Reality or an Ideal’, ‘Language, Creativity and Social Development’ and ‘Religion, Fundamentalism and Indian Culture’.
Section II focuses on the global issues. The articles in this section are not only having a contemporary relevance, but they also have influences on the lives of mankind in one form or other. The articles are on ‘Globalisation and the Emergence of Global Ethics’, ‘Terrorism: A Conceptual Study’ and the third one, ‘Ecology: Co-existence and Violence-Towards the Making of a Global Citizen’. Section III aims at bringing some solutions to the problems faced by the Indians in particulars and the mankind in general. This section has an article entitled ‘The Ethics of Mahabharata – An Overview’ which harps upon the traditional views for the growth of a healthy interpersonal relationship. There are three articles on prospective contemporary solutions, proposed by three great thinkers of India – Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda.
